JobsOhio Update and Economic Impact Memo from JP Nauseef | July 31, 2020
JobsOhio business and community stakeholders,
We love good news and, in the midst of the current environment, even more so. This week, Ohio captured nine top-10 spots in Business Facilities’ rankings of states in various categories. Ohio’s top-10 rankings include:
- No. 2 in Automotive manufacturing strength
- No. 3 in Manufacturing employment
- No. 3 in Foreign direct investment (FDI) capital expenditures
- No. 6 in Opportunity zones
- No. 7 in Gross domestic product (GDP)
- No. 7 in Solar power jobs
- No. 9 in Aerospace
- No. 9 in Manufacturing output percentage
- No. 10 in Tech jobs
Four Ohio metros also earned top ten rankings:
- Toledo – No. 2 in Manufacturing (Mid-Sized MSAs)
- Dayton – No. 3 in Manufacturing
- Akron – No. 7 in Manufacturing
- Cincinnati – No. 7 in Corporate headquarters
These rankings showcase Ohio’s leadership and highlight its opportunities. For instance, Ohio has been a manufacturing powerhouse for generations and that strength will be an advantage as we seek to lead in supply chain reshoring.
We move forward with confidence that Ohio will continue to be a magnet for business investment and a location of choice for in-demand workforce talent.
