JobsOhio Update and Economic Impact Memo from JP Nauseef | May 8, 2020

To JobsOhio’s statewide business and community stakeholders,

It has been almost a week since the first phase of the DeWine/Husted Administration initiative began to reopen businesses and jumpstart the economy. By next Tuesday, when consumer, retail and services reopen, Ohio’s economy will be operating at 89%. Yesterday, Governor DeWine and Lt. Governor Husted announced that personal care services in Ohio, including barbershops, hair salons and other services will reopen on May 15th. The same day, restaurants and bars will open for outdoor dining and on May 21st, they’ll open for indoor dining. At that time, the Ohio economy will be open for business at over 92%.

This is exciting news as Ohio’s businesses have been anticipating the opportunity to serve their customers and resume operations. JobsOhio and our Network partners have worked alongside the administration and business leaders across the state to help develop best practices for reopening. We are grateful to work alongside Pat Tiberi and members at the Ohio Business Round Table and Frank Sullivan who led the Board of Economic Advisors, JobsOhio Board Chair Bob Smith and others to advise the Governor on reopening strategy and procedures.

We must remember the work that needs to continue to flatten the curve, and your leadership is critical now more than ever. In order to keep moving forward, we must be responsible, diligent and patient. There will be risks, but your efforts until this point have helped Ohio set the standard and outperform its neighboring states. As we prepare for the future, we are stronger when we’re united. We’re #InThisTogetherOhio!

JobsOhio’s most recent Economic Impact Report, prepared by our research team, is now available Ohio Safe. Ohio Working, where you will find up to date information regarding JobsOhio’s COVID-19 programs and details about reopening the Ohio economy.
