A Center for Opportunities

The County Commissioners recently approved and charged the development, by Perry County Job and Family Services (PCJFS), of a new Opportunity Center Campus serving everyone living across the County. The Center will be located at the County Home Farm, west of New Lexington on State Route 37, across from the County Fairgrounds.

You’ll hear about our new building that will be located next to the Hocking College Perry Campus in the coming weeks and months, but our vision for the Opportunity Center Campus extends well beyond that. Our shared vision is to renew the site as a community-impact campus that will be home to the resources and catalysts that lift one another up as citizens, parents, learners, workers, students, retirees, recreationists and in all the other roles we hold in our lives.

The County Home Farm site is as potentially valuable of a public asset as can be found across our entire region. We and many of our partners across county departments and educational systems see the Opportunity Center Campus as the best strategy for realizing from the site its greatest benefit to the greatest number of our residents.

All of our PCJFS and Mobility Management staff and services will be housed within the new building. But even within the building we intend to create community space and programming that reweaves the social fabric of interaction, collaboration and engagement that supports and enriches our lives, but which has been badly torn and tattered by the challenges faced by our region. We don’t want the Opportunity Center to be seen as our building, but rather that all of Perry County sees it as their building.

The responsibility we hold for doing the best for our County in creating the Opportunity Center Campus is an important one. For us to succeed, we know we’ll need to hear from those reading this how you think we can best serve people in our new facility with essential social services, while supporting the activities that reduce the need by our people for what we do.

In the coming weeks we will have a framework for gathering your ideas and suggestions into a collaborative plan with cross-sector impact and I look forward to inviting you to join in this process. In the meantime, please feel free to reach out to me about how, together, we can make the Opportunity Center Campus achieve its potential as an invaluable, fortune-changing community asset benefitting all of us.
