Federal food aid critical for local workers, seniors, economy | June 7, 2021
The Southeast Ohio Foodbank, a program of Hocking Athens Perry Community Action, provides basic food help to about 19,000 different people each month across its 10-county service area. More than one in four people we serve are seniors. Even as we continue to see historically long lines at the food bank and our member food pantries, we know the situation could have been much worse over the past 14 months. Thankfully, Congress passed and President Trump signed into law the Families First Coronavirus Response Act on a widely bipartisan basis in March 2020.

Perry County Broadband Mapping Project Live - Take the Test in 5 minutes or less
The Community Foundation for Perry County (CFPC) is focused on data collection for better broadband across Perry County. Access to broadband in Perry County was a problem before COVID-19 - the pandemic only made these gaps more acute. Inadequate broadband prevents students from accessing distance learning tools, seniors from receiving telemedicine, businesses from allowing telecommuting for employees, and families staying connected virtually. State and federal elected leaders have been directing millions of dollars to address broadband gaps around the state. The questions are: (1) what areas need the most help, and (2) what data to use to allocate the funding. The current map of Perry County denoting broadband access is misleading – just ask some of the families or businesses residing in the areas shaded in blue on the map. To help build the case for broadband funding in Perry County, the Community Foundation for Perry County is partnering with GeoPartners and Perry County organizations to map broadband access, speeds, and cost in the county to better inform future investments in this important resource.

Red Cross and actor James Van Der Beek urge Americans to give blood and make it a summer full of life | May 10, 2021
May 10, 2021 — The American Red Cross along with actor James Van Der Beek and his wife, Kimberly, have joined together to urge all who are healthy to make this a summer full of life for patients by scheduling an appointment to give blood or platelets. As the nation transitions to a new, hopeful phase of this devastating pandemic and people begin to return to some of their favorite activities, the Red Cross is concerned about the impact this could have on blood donor turnout and the blood supply this summer. The need for lifesaving blood transfusions never takes a break. It’s critical to have blood ready to go when every second counts.
