Defining REUSE $1500 Scholarship!

Deadline is February 26, 2021!

Calling all Perry County Ohio high school students (and your grandparents or elder neighbors)!
The Perry County Waste Reduction & Recycling program is once again sponsoring the “Defining REUSE” (Today Compared to Yesterday) Oral History Scholarship Project!

Thanks to the continued generous support from our local organizations we are offering $1500 for the top entry!   2nd and 3rd place $ awards as well!
The purpose of this project is to encourage communication between youth and members of our community who may be several generations older and can offer a historic perspective & lesson on “sustainable living regarding trash and recycling”.

This is open to grades 9-12 students, as an intergenerational combined civics/language arts/ science/ techno-based lesson, where young- seeks out old, and records a conversation with them about the topic of REUSE; with the focus on comparing ‘back in the day’ to present day.  Helping to bring back lessons from the depression era phrase-
“Use it up, wear it out, make it do, or do without”.

May the ethic of wise-use, be embraced by our young people because they listen to how it was for their elder family members and friends when they were young.
This project gives us recorded historical stories and brief essays, allowing our youth to remind us of what they learned from their elders and their past, for the good of today and future generations!

  • Sincere thanks to our scholarship donors! Donations forever appreciated!
