Balderson Announces $2 Million for Key Water Projects in Perry County

WASHINGTON, D.C. (March 15, 2024) – Today, Congressman Troy Balderson (OH-12) announced that he secured $2 million for two water infrastructure projects in Perry County that will reduce reliance on well water and boost wastewater access and treatment capacity.

The Village of Thornville will receive $1 million in federal funds to expand the existing wastewater treatment plant. Currently, Thornville’s treatment plant serves almost 1,200 customers and is approaching its maximum capacity.

Northern Perry County Water and Wastewater is receiving $1 million to help fund a waterline expansion project to extend water service to households currently not covered. Many residents in the area rely on well water, which is more susceptible to contamination and may not have the supply needed to meet the demands of the household.

“These projects by the Village of Thornville and Northern Perry County Water and Wastewater will bring massive quality of life improvements to the people they serve,” said Balderson. “Thank you to the local officials in the Village of Thornville and Northern Perry County Water and Wastewater for all your help and for pushing to expand access to county drinking water and wastewater services.”

“The Perry County Commissioners and Northern Perry County Water are so grateful to Congressman Balderson’s office for securing grant funding for our water project,” said Jerry Rehart Jr., Northern Perry County Water Wastewater Operations Supervisor. “This project will not only extend potable water to residents of the County who lack a safe and reliable water supply, but will add infrastructure which will improve the overall system reliability.  This project would not be feasible without the help of Congressman Troy Balderson.”

Each year, Members of Congress may submit community project funding requests during the annual appropriations process. Congressman Balderson worked with local officials and county engineers to identify projects in need of financial assistance across the 12th Congressional District. The funds for the the Village of Thornville and Northern Perry County Water and Wastewater were made available with the passage and enactment of the Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2024.
