Program provides support and prevention services for children and families

New Lexington, OH – Perry County Children Services recently launched their new School Outreach program at New Lexington Elementary, with plans to have the program operating with caseworkers in four elementary schools across the county in the 2023-2024 school year. The School Outreach Program is a local-levy-funded, short-term intervention program designed to help children and families by breaking barriers that hinder a child's overall potential and success through preventative services and supports.

“This position of School Outreach Caseworker is a game changer for fulfilling the needs of our elementary students and families,” said Casey Coffey, Superintendent, New Lexington School District. “Our students start each day with a friendly greeting at the front door by our school outreach caseworker. By having this liaison in our school daily, we are able to provide above and beyond support to our kids and staff.”

School Outreach Caseworkers provide a variety of services within the school building including, truancy prevention, community referrals and links to local resources, crisis intervention, summer support and assistance with basic needs. The services are open to all students and referrals are welcome from staff, parents or the students themselves.

“As the school outreach caseworker, I have the opportunity to get to know the students and work with them to solve problems and connect them to resources within the community,” said Jaime Taylor, School Outreach Caseworker at New Lexington Elementary School. “By working closely with school administrators, teachers and staff, who are so busy with their daily responsibilities, I believe we can provide valuable support that will have a significant positive impact on children and families within our community.”
